The Machalilla National Park is a protected area along the Ecuadorian coast in the Manabi province. It is located South of the Mirador San Jose near Puerto Lopez and the small parish Machalilla. The Machalilla National Park has many beaches, forests and islands.

The beautiful beach of Los Frailes is located about 45 minutes from the Mirador San Jose community. This is somewhere you must visit when the family, friends and loved ones. The Los Frailes beach is located in close proximity to Agua Blanca which makes for another great activity when you are visiting the beach. The beach has pristine sand and clear water great for spending the day on the beach enjoying the weather.

If you are up for a small hike you can make your way up to the Mirador Las Fragatas located on the North-side of the Los Frailes beach. Take the small trail up to the mirador to enjoy incredible views of the ocean and the beautiful landscape. One can also visit Tortuguita beach which is a smaller more secluded portion of this beautiful park.

You can hire a guide or taxi to visit Los Frailes beach or you can simply drive to the area. If you are getting dropped off next to Ruta Spondylus E15 please note the walk to the beach can take some time. There are sometimes small taxis capable of driving you down to the beach and back.
